Disaster Recovery: Failover
Backups and failover planning. Includes RTO/RPO Planning, Cross-Region Replication, Immutable Backups and Failover Automation — delivered by IQDigital's…
Disaster recovery keeps your business running when infrastructure fails, data is corrupted or ransomware strikes. IQDigital sets recovery time and recovery point objectives with you, then implements cross-region replication, active-passive or active-active failover, immutable air-gapped backups and regular game days that test recovery for real.
Who it's for
- Businesses where downtime directly costs revenue
- Companies with backups that have never been tested
- Teams concerned about ransomware
What is disaster recovery?
Hope is not a strategy. IQDigital engineers Disaster Recovery (DR) plans that ensure business continuity even in the face of catastrophic failure. We design for 'RTO' (Recovery Time Objective) and 'RPO' (Recovery Point Objective) targets that align with your business needs. We assume that AWS regions will fail, databases will corrupt, and ransomware will strike.
How failover and replication work
We implement 'Active-Passive' and 'Active-Active' failover architectures. In an Active-Active setup, traffic is load-balanced across two geographically distant regions; if one fails, the other handles the load instantly with zero downtime. We use 'Cross-Region Replication' for databases to ensure your data is safe even if a meteor hits the primary data center.
How we test recovery
We conduct 'Game Days'—simulated disaster events where we intentionally break infrastructure to test the team's response and the system's automated recovery. We ensure your backups are immutable (cannot be encrypted by ransomware) and air-gapped. We provide the resilience that lets CTOs sleep at night.
What's included
- RTO/RPO Planning — Defining acceptable downtime and data loss.
- Cross-Region Replication — Geographically redundant data storage.
- Immutable Backups — Protection against ransomware encryption.
- Failover Automation — DNS switching to healthy regions instantly.
How an engagement runs
- Diagnose (Week 1) — We find the money before we spend yours.
- Build (2–8 weeks) — Senior engineers. Your stack. Weekly proof.
- Launch (Go-live) — Released against a baseline, not a hope.
- Compound (Ongoing) — The second month should beat the first.
How the work is scoped
- Engagement: Fixed-scope project · optional managed support
Questions about Disaster Recovery
What are RTO and RPO?
Recovery time objective is how long you can afford to be down; recovery point objective is how much data you can afford to lose. They set the design of the recovery plan.
Active-passive or active-active?
Active-passive keeps a standby region ready to take over. Active-active runs traffic across two distant regions at once, so if one fails the other carries the load.
How do backups protect against ransomware?
Backups are immutable and air-gapped, so ransomware cannot encrypt or delete them.
What is a game day?
A planned exercise where infrastructure is deliberately broken to test the team's response and the system's automated recovery before a real incident.
